Jim Kaup has practiced municipal law since
1981.  Shortly after graduating from the University
of Kansas School of Law, Jim went to work for the
Kansas League of Municipalities where he
ultimately served as Legal Counsel and General
Counsel.  Jim left the League in 1992 and entered
private practice intent on continuing his
commitment to serving the needs of local
governments.  

Jim has worked in several firms over the past 15
years but has always focused his practice on local
government law issues.  Jim spent about four
years as City Attorney for Edwardsville, Kansas.

A synopsis of Jim's career includes:

  •        Speaks frequently at conferences
    throughout the State of Kansas on topics
    ranging from land use, annexation,
    employment, constitutional law, Fair Labor
    Standards Act and tort liability issues, as well
    as other issues facing municipal governments.
  •       Clients have included city and county
    governments through out the state, as well as
    the state's major developmental disability
    organization--Interhab
  •      Participated in numerous training
    programs for Kansas government officials
  •        Drafted numerous land use regulations
    for city and county governments in the state,
    including regulations for confined animal
    feedlot operations and wind energy farms
  •        Served as planning commissioner for
    Shawnee County Planning Commissioner as
    well as Chair of the Commission from 2003-05
  •        Lobbied the state legislature on
    numerous issues of concern to Kansas city
    and county governments
